Embiid signs three-year, $193 million extension with 76ers
Joel Embiid has signed a contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team confirmed on Friday. The reigning NBA MVP stated his desire to remain with the Sixers for the rest of his career.
Multiple reports indicate that the deal is a three-year maximum extension worth approximately $193 million, which would keep Embiid in Philadelphia through the 2028-29 season.
“Philadelphia is home. I want to be here for the rest of my career,” Embiid wrote on Instagram. “You guys deserve a championship and I think we’re just getting started!”
The 30-year-old center, who helped the United States win Olympic gold in Paris last month, averaged a career-high 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists last season. He has been instrumental in the 76ers’ success, making seven All-Star appearances and winning two NBA scoring titles.
76ers president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey, praised Embiid’s commitment: “Joel has cemented himself as one of the greatest Sixers of all time. He’s integral to this franchise’s quest for another NBA championship.”
Despite reaching the playoffs for seven consecutive seasons, the 76ers have yet to advance to the Eastern Conference finals during Embiid’s tenure.
