Doncic, Irving propel Mavs to 3-0 lead over T’wolves

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combined for 66 points, propelling the Dallas Mavericks to a 116-107 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. This win gives the Mavericks a commanding 3-0 lead in their NBA Western Conference final series.

The Mavs secured their third consecutive win in a tightly contested game in Dallas, following two narrow victories in Minneapolis. The fourth quarter featured seven lead changes, but Dallas pulled ahead with a decisive 12-3 scoring run. The Mavericks will have their first chance to clinch the series on Tuesday.

“We need one more,” Doncic cautioned, acknowledging the formidable Timberwolves team. Doncic and Irving each scored 33 points, with Doncic adding seven rebounds and five assists. Irving scored 14 of his points in the fourth quarter. P.J. Washington’s three-pointer put Dallas ahead for good at 107-104 with 3:38 left. Daniel Gafford’s three blocks included a crucial rejection of Mike Conley in the final minute.

Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 26 points but was limited to four in the fourth quarter. Karl-Anthony Towns missed all four of his attempts in the final period. The series winner will face either the Boston Celtics or Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals. The Celtics lead their Eastern Conference final 3-0.

Doncic noted that Minnesota’s double-teaming energized Dallas’ offense. “Everybody touches the ball, everybody plays,” he said. Timberwolves coach Chris Finch pointed to offensive breakdowns as the issue. Despite the physical contest, Dallas secured the win, moving closer to the NBA Finals.
