Al Arabi beat Al WAkrah to win Emir Cup
Doha: Al Arabi defeated Al Wakrah 96-88 in overtime to win the prestigious Emir Cup basketball title at Al Gharafa Sports Club on Saturday.
Nicholas Stover was yet again the star of the show for Qatar League champions Arabi, top-scoring with 29 points.
“I am very pleased and honoured to have helped Al Arabi win the title tonight. This is our second title this year after the league crown,” said Stover, who scored 42 points in the semifinal against Al Khor. William Earl Byrd and Khalid Suliman Abdil also played a big part in Arabi’s victory, contributing with 25 points each.
It was Arabi’s eighth Emir Cup title and it came after a long wait of 24 years.
“The victory is very sweet for us as it has come after a long gap. The title win is the result of my boys’ consistent show this season. We are happy to win two titles this season,” Arabi coach Hatem Mamlouk said.
