Crouser makes history with third straight Olympic gold

Ryan Crouser cemented his status as the undisputed king of the shot put, capturing a historic third consecutive Olympic gold medal with a season’s best of 22.90 meters at the Stade de France on Saturday.

The 31-year-old American, who previously triumphed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, joins an elite group of athletes to have won multiple consecutive Olympic titles in the event. However, Crouser’s dominance over his rivals, including compatriot Joe Kovacs who claimed silver, elevates him to a different level.

“It definitely, I think, means the most out of all of them,” said Crouser. “In Rio I was the new guy on the block, so that one, I don’t want to say it was lucky, but it was definitely the least appreciated for me. So this one it’s definitely the sweetest victory out of all of them.”

Crouser’s triumph is even more remarkable considering his injury-plagued season. Despite facing setbacks, including a torn pectoral muscle, he displayed incredible resilience to secure the gold medal.

The American hinted at a potential fourth Olympic bid in Los Angeles in 2028, aiming to cap off his illustrious career on home soil.

Joe Kovacs, who secured the silver medal for the third time in his career, acknowledged Crouser’s dominance but expressed satisfaction with his performance.
