Sri Lanka thrash Bangladesh by innings to seal series win

Sri Lanka wrapped up a commanding innings and 78-run victory over Bangladesh before lunch on day four of the second Test in Colombo on Saturday, clinching the two-match series 1–0.

Resuming at 115-6, Bangladesh quickly collapsed to 133 all out. Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya struck with the fifth ball of the morning, removing Litton Das for 14 and triggering the final slide.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted it was a “very disappointing game.” He said: “The way we batted in the first innings is when things went wrong for us. A total of 247 was not good on this pitch.”

Sri Lanka’s dominance was built on Pathum Nissanka’s superb 158 and a 194-run stand with Dinesh Chandimal, who made 93. Kusal Mendis added a brisk 84 to stretch the lead to 211.

Nissanka, named player of the match, said: “It feels good to contribute. I try to do my best for the team.”
