Sinner cancels practice as elbow injury clouds Wimbledon hopes
World number one Jannik Sinner cancelled his scheduled practice session on Tuesday, heightening concerns that an elbow injury could derail his quest for a maiden Wimbledon title.
The Italian star suffered the injury after an awkward fall during the opening game of his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov on Monday. Although Sinner advanced when Dimitrov retired with a pectoral injury while leading by two sets, the reprieve may prove temporary.
“It was quite an unfortunate fall,” Sinner said. “I could feel it. So let’s see. Tomorrow we are going to check to see how it is, and then we see.”
The reigning US Open and Australian Open champion confirmed he would undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of the damage.
Sinner, a three-time Grand Slam winner, is scheduled to face American 10th seed Ben Shelton in Wednesday’s second match on Court One.
