Richardson arrested for domestic violence ahead of US Championships

SEATTLE: Reigning world 100 metres champion Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested for domestic violence at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport just four days before the start of the US Track & Field Championships, USA TODAY Sports reported on Friday.

According to a police report, the 25-year-old Olympic silver medallist allegedly shoved a male companion during an argument, causing him to fall into a nearby column. Richardson was detained on the evening of July 27 and released the following day.

“USATF is aware of these reports. We are not commenting on this matter,” USA Track & Field said in a brief statement.

Richardson, who competed in the 100m heats on Thursday in Eugene, Oregon, later withdrew from Friday’s semi-finals. Neither the Port of Seattle Police nor Richardson’s representatives have issued a public response at this time.(Reuters)
