Qatar thrash Brunei 13-0 to open AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifying campaign

DOHA: Qatar’s U-23 national team made a perfect start to their AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifying campaign with a resounding victory over Brunei in Group H at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.

The hosts were unstoppable from the first whistle, with Mostafa Al Sayed stealing the spotlight by netting four goals in the 4th, 22nd, 54th, and 57th minutes. Noureddine Ibrahim added a brace, striking in the 55th and deep into stoppage time, while Marwan Bramil also scored twice in the 68th and 83rd minutes.

Qatar’s scoring spree was further boosted by Jassim Al Sharshani (6’), Mubarak Shanan from the spot (11’), Mohammed Siraj (13’), Al Hashimi Al Hussain (20’), and Abdulaziz Mohammed (34’), completing an emphatic performance.

The result places Qatar at the top of Group H with three points, ahead of India on goal difference, after the latter defeated Bahrain 2-0 in their opener.(QNA)
