Qatar drawn with South Korea and Oman for 2025 Asian Men’s Handball Championship

DOHA: Qatar will face South Korea and Oman in Group A of the 22nd Asian Men’s Handball Championship, set to take place in Kuwait from January 15 to 26. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the 2027 World Championship in Germany.

Group B features Bahrain, Iraq, China, and Jordan, while hosts Kuwait will compete in Group C alongside the UAE, Hong Kong, and India. Group D includes Japan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the main round, where eight sides will battle in two round-robin groups. The leading two from each will progress to the semifinals and secure direct qualification for the 2027 World Championship.

Qatar, the dominant force in Asian handball, will be chasing a seventh consecutive continental crown after triumphs in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. The reigning champions defeated Japan 30–24 in last year’s final in Bahrain and will aim to qualify for their eleventh World Championship. Their best global result came in 2015 when they finished runners-up on home soil in Doha.(QNA)
