Lusail circuit named biggest mover in 2026 Sustainable Circuits Index
DOHA : Lusail International Circuit (LIC) has been named the Most Improved and Biggest Mover in the 2026 Sustainable Circuits Index after gaining 17 points and climbing 31 places in the global rankings.
The improvement was the largest year-on-year rise among the 115 international motorsport circuits assessed in the index, which evaluates venues using environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria.
LIC already holds the highest Three-Star Environmental Accreditation from the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), placing it among a select group of circuits with the top rating while hosting all three major motorsport world championship series.
The Sustainable Circuits Index is overseen by the non-profit Sustainable Motorsport Alliance, with Enovation Consulting collecting and analysing data. The findings undergo an independent academic assessment led by Professor Paolo Taticchi of University College London’s School of Management and cover 21 sustainability and institutional performance criteria.
LIC has introduced a range of environmental measures, including solar power across its facilities and an electric operational vehicle fleet. The circuit has also installed recycling stations made from repurposed wood and an interactive recycling wall in its Formula 1 Fan Zone.
The index highlighted the circuit’s efforts to improve accessibility and inclusion, including quiet spaces designed to accommodate spectators with sensory needs during race weekends.
“This recognition reflects our firm commitment to sustainability and demonstrates that meaningful progress begins by turning ambitions into tangible practices and measurable impact,” LIC CEO Abdulaziz Ali Al Mohannadi said.
Al Mohannadi said the recognition, together with the FIA’s three-star accreditation, represented important milestones in the circuit’s sustainability programme and would encourage further improvements.
LIC has also joined the Sports for Climate Action Framework under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, committing to initiatives covering biodiversity, emissions reduction, waste management, environmental awareness and community engagement.
The circuit said it aims to establish a global model for sustainable motorsport by 2030, while contributing to Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
