Trezeguet moves to Al-Riyadh on free transfer

RIYADH: Egypt winger Mahmoud Hassan, widely known as Trezeguet, has joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Riyadh on a free transfer, the club announced on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old left Egyptian champions Al-Ahly last month after terminating his contract and has now moved to Saudi Arabia without a transfer fee. Al-Riyadh did not disclose details of the agreement.

“Welcome, Trezegoal! Mahmoud Trezeguet is officially an AlRiyadh. From Egypt to Riyadh… Trezeguet has arrived,” the club said on X alongside a picture of the player.

Trezeguet returns to the Gulf after previously playing for Qatar’s Al Rayyan during his career.

The winger has also represented European clubs including Belgian side Anderlecht, English Premier League club Aston Villa, and Turkish teams Kasimpasa and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Trezeguet has been a regular for Egypt and featured at the most recent World Cup, scoring in his team’s 3-1 group-stage victory over New Zealand as they advanced to the last 16.

His move to Al-Riyadh adds further experience to the Saudi club’s squad as it prepares for the new Pro League season.

Trezeguet began his professional career in Egypt before establishing himself abroad and has built a career spanning clubs in Europe and the Middle East, while remaining an important figure for the national team.
