Tabata brace helps Al Rayyan blank Al Sailiya in QSL Cup

Doha, Qatar: Rodrigo Tabata scored a brace as Al Rayyan blanked Al Sailiya 4-0 to consolidate their position at the top of Group B in the QSL Cup on Thursday.

In the match played at Al Arabi stadium, captain Tabata put his side ahead in the 32nd minute with a trademark freekick and found the net again in the 46th, casually slotting the ball home after being allowed too much of space inside the Sailiya box.

Mohammed Juma made it 3-0 67th, tapping the ball into an empty net after a cross from Tabata found him unmarked on the goal line, while Abdulrahman Harazi completed the tally with a fine shot from outside the box in the 75th.

Rayyan have 12 points from four matches while second-placed Al Khor are on 10 after playing out a 2-2 draw against Al Sadd.

Hassan Palang put Sadd ahead in the 7th minute but two first-half penalties, converted by Ahmed Hassan Al Mohannadi and Salem Khalifa gave Khor a 2-1 lead at half-time.

However, Alaadeen Salman equalised in the 86th to salvage a point for Sadd, who are fourth with five points.

In the other match of the day, Al Ahli defeated al Shahania.

Ali Farydoon put Ahli ahead in the 36th minute after converting a penalty while Mohammed Yasin scored the second deep in added time.
