Soria scores after long gap

Al Rayyan’s striker Sebastian Soria must be relieved to have found the target after a gap of six rounds, albeit from the spot.

Rodrigo Tabata has been Rayyan’s trusted spot-kick specialist, but after winning a penalty, the captain gave Soria the chance. The 33-year-old found the back of the net with a powerful strike, which clipped the underneath of the bar and went in.

Uruguay-born Qatar international Soria had netted 10 goals in Rayyan’s triumphant league campaign last season, but his effort against Arabi was only his second so far in the league this season.

“As a striker, I’m always looking to score goals. I always try to give my best,” said Soria.
