Slot plans to build on Klopp’s foundations at Liverpool

LIVERPOOL: Liverpool’s newly appointed manager, Arne Slot, has assured fans that he will not dismantle the robust foundation laid by his predecessor, Jürgen Klopp. Instead, Slot is committed to building upon the successful framework Klopp established during his more than eight-year tenure.

Slot, who took over the managerial reins last month, expressed his admiration for the team’s current state in an interview published on the club’s website on Wednesday. “Klopp has left the team in a really good place,” Slot remarked. “I think we have a lot of quality and the way they played last season was already impressive, so we are going to build from there.”

The Dutch manager emphasized that his philosophy of attacking football aligns closely with Liverpool’s existing style, which was shaped significantly by Klopp. “This is probably one of the reasons they came to me as well,” Slot explained. “We were all inspired by Pep Guardiola and Klopp, and I think at a big club, which I worked in at Feyenoord as well, it is probably the only style you can play – to have the ball a lot, to have a lot of energy.”

Slot’s approach suggests a seamless transition for Liverpool as they prepare for the upcoming season. The club’s first test under Slot will be a pre-season match against Real Betis on July 26, followed by the start of their Premier League campaign against Ipswich Town on August 17.(Reuters)
