Sanchez announces Qatar squad for Afghanistan match

Doha, Qatar: Qatar coach Felix Sanchez announced the national squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup joint qualifying match against Afghanistan, which will be held in Tajikistan on November 19.

Qatar have already played three joint qualifying matches against Afghanistan (won 6-0), India (0-0 draw) and Bangladesh (won 2-0) since September.

Al Annabi will also use the match against Afghanistan to gauge player fitness and form for the 24th Gulf Cup to be held in Doha from November 27 to December 9.

They are also scheduled take on Singapore in a friendly match this Thursday at home. Meanwhile, Sanchez, who also doubles up as Qatar’s U-23 coach, named a 31-man squad for the AFC U-23 Championship, which will be held in

Thailand from January 8-26 next year.

The Olympic team qualified for the AFC U-23 Championship winning the qualifying event in Doha. They had played out a draw with Oman 2-2, beat Afghanistan 2-0 and Nepal 5-0.
