Real’s defender Carvajal to undergo surgery after cruciate ligament injury

MADRID: Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has confirmed that he will undergo surgery following a serious cruciate ligament injury sustained during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Villarreal in LaLiga. The 32-year-old was stretchered off in stoppage time after an awkward collision with Villarreal midfielder Yeremy Pino caused him to sprain his right knee.

In an Instagram post, Carvajal shared the news of his injury, stating: “Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed, I’ll have to undergo surgery and be off the field for a few months.” The post also included a picture of Carvajal in an ambulance, signaling the difficult recovery period ahead for the experienced defender.

Carvajal’s absence will be a significant blow for Real Madrid, as the Spanish international is a key figure in their defense. His recovery timeline is yet to be determined, but he is expected to miss several crucial months of the season.
