Qatar coach Felix Sanchez praises players for ‘great performance’
Doha, Qatar: Qatar coach Felix Sanchez was all praise for his players after their smashing 6-0 victory against which brought their Gulf Cup campaign right on track.
"We showed up and put in a great performance. The team appeared personal and realistic throughout, succeeded in creating opportunities and scored early, which gave us an advantage throughout the game, said Sanchez after the win.
Qatar were on a different level especially in the second half during which they scored four goals and Sanchez said they took their chances well, unlike in the first match against Iraq.
“First games in such competitions are difficult. We did not manage to exploit the opportunities we got against Iraq, but against Yemen we scored early, and the players are trying to give their best in any match, fighting to win, ” said the Spaniard.
The only sour note for Qatar on Friday was the shoulder injury to Abdulaziz Hatem, who had to to be replaced early in the match.
"I have no idea the extent of (Hatem's) injury, I have to go back to the medical staff to ask about it," said Sanchez, adding that they need to prepare well for the final group match against UAE.
“We respect all teams, and we consider every final game for us, we will enter the UAE match with a positive mentality in order to win and qualify, and I say we are still in the competition and we have to respect all teams, and prepare well for the next game against UAE.
