Qatar beat Bangladesh in AFC U-16 qualifiers

Doha, Qatar: Rashid Al Abdulla and Abdulrahman Al Dosari scored in the second half as Qatar eased past Bangladesh 2-0 in a Group E match of the AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Qualifiers in Doha.

In the match played at Aspire Dome Indoor Stadium, Bangladesh displayed defensive discipline to hold the Qataris to a goalless draw heading into the half-time break.

Their resistance, however, was broken in the 55th minute as Al Abdulla found the back of the net to break deadlock.

Bangladesh tried to fight back but Al Dosari seal the win for Qatar right at the end. Qatar will play Yemen on Friday while Bangladesh will face Bhutan.

In another match in the group, Yemen thumped Bhutan 10-1, with Mohamed Ahmed Mahdi scoring four second-half goals to steer the West Asians to an emphatic start.

Yemen’s goal rush began in the 12th minute with Hesham Ahmed Balabl converting a penalty kick, before Ahmed Hasan Murshed doubled their lead four minutes later.

Mohamed Ali Hasan then scored in the 20th minute, only for Jigme Namgyel to pull one back for Bhutan in the 42nd minute. Ali Hasan, however, restored their three-goal lead just a minute later.

Yemen continued to take charge of the game in the second half, with Ahmed Hali scoring in the 51st and 52nd minutes.

Substitute Omar Hussein al-Tairi and Hasan Murshed got in the scoring act in the 74th and 76th minutes respectively with Ahmed Mahdi having the final say as he completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute and then added one more four minutes later to seal a convincing win.
