Pochettino extends U.S. coaching contract through 2030

WASHINGTON: Argentine Mauricio Pochettino has signed a contract extension to remain head coach of the United States men’s national team until 2030, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) said on Tuesday.

Pochettino, who took charge of the United States in September 2024, will continue leading the team after guiding the Americans to the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which was co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The new agreement extends the former Tottenham Hotspur, Paris St Germain and Chelsea manager’s tenure through the next World Cup cycle, with the federation saying he will play a broader role in the long-term development of soccer in the country.

In addition to overseeing the senior men’s national team, Pochettino and his coaching staff will provide technical support and strategic advice across several areas of the federation’s operations, including the development of national team programmes, youth football, coach education and collaboration with professional leagues.

The USSF said the expanded role reflects its commitment to strengthening the country’s football structure beyond the senior national team as it builds towards future international competitions.

Pochettino’s extension comes after the United States reached the knockout stage of the home World Cup, with the federation expressing confidence in the Argentine’s leadership as it seeks sustained progress over the next four years.
