Mohanad Ali goal helps Al Duhail beat Al Sailiya
Doha, Qatar: Iraqi striker Mohanad Ali scored a beautiful goal in the dying moments of the game to help Al Duhail SC beat a battling Al Sailiya in the Qatar Stars League on Thursday.
The win took Duhail provisionally to the of the table with 14 points, but Sailiya would feel unlucky not have taken something out of the game, especially that they had a goal ruled out for offside.
Youngster Khaled Mohammed put Duhail ahead with a thumping long range shot in the 24th minute, but Sailiya equalised through Abdulrahman Mohammed, who remarkable composure to snatch a loose ball just outside the area and beat Amine Lecomte with a measured shot, in the 31st minute.
Sailiya thought they had taken the lead in the 84th minute after Nadir Belhadj’s free-kick hit Almoez Ali on the knee and went inside, but the goal was ruled out for offside to the relief of Duhail players and coach Rui Faria.
And they were delighted when Ali, after receiving a pass near the centre circle slalomed his way into the box before unleashing a grounder past Khalifa Aababacar in the 90th minute.
Al Gharafa missed a chance to join Duhail at the top when they were held to a 3-3 draw by Al Wakrah.
Gharafa took the lead through Ahmed Alaaeldin in the 18th minute, only for Wakrah to draw level in the very next minute through Mohamed Benyettou. Khalid Muneer then put Wakrah ahead but Adlene Guideoura drew level as the teams took the half-time break at 2-2.
Ousmane Koulibaly once again gave Wakrah the lead in the 57th but Gharafa equalised three minutes later through Koo Ja Cheol.
