Laudrup is worried about medio Goumou’s fitness

MICHAEL Laudrup is sweating over the fitness of Daniel Goumou.

The holding midfielder was one of the best players of Al Rayyan before a one-year ban, following his transfer dispute with El Jaish, hindered his progress. Back in the side this season, Goumou got regular starts as Paraguayan Victor Caceres is injured.

But he has struggled for fitness and precision, often letting the team down. Laudrup said it was natural that the youngster was finding it difficult to perform after being out of competitive action for so long.

“I was expecting it. Goumou has been out for one year. On his comeback, he is expected to play 90 minutes in every game, which is very difficult. Of course, he has got the chance, but it’s difficult for him to perform at a high level at this moment,” said Laudrup.

The Dane said Caceres too could find it tough on returning to the side.

“We’re expecting Caceres to be back and people may demand hundred per cent from him straightaway. But don’t forget that he has been out for eight months. So it’ll take him some time to regain his full match fitness,” added Laudrup.
