Kyrgyzstan thankful for QFA’s support: Sultanov

Doha: The Football Federation of Kyrgyz Republic (FFKR) President Semetei Sultanov, who is accompanying his national team on a four-nation friendly tournament, thanked the Qatar Football Association (QFA) for extending its support on developing the sport in the Central Asian nation.

“I met QFA Vice-President Saud Abdulaziz Al Mohannadi today. We discussed several topics and how we can share our experiences and knowledge,” said Sultanov. “Kyrgyzstan had been visiting Doha in the last few years and have also played a couple of friendly matches. We really appreciate QFA’s support.”

Kyrgyzstan became FIFA and AFC member in 1994, two years after the country’s federation was established.

The visitors drew 3-3 in the first friendly against the hosts, but lost 1-2 in their second match as they continued their preparations for the AFC U-23 Championships.

“The Doha event is kind of a preparation for us. It’s a good experience as we can analyse the team’s performance before the Asian tournament,” said Sultanov.

Kyrgyzstan will be hosting the Group A matches from July 19. Iran, Oman and Sri Lanka are the other teams in their pool.

The FFKR head also hailed Qatar’s excellent training facilities.

“Qatar has one of the best sporting infrastructures in the world. We’re really thrilled to be here. We don’t have such facilities in our country. Whenever we get an invite to play, we come here,” he added.
