‘Khalfan a proven player’

Al Sadd’s attacking midfielder Khalfan Ibrahim may have recovered from his injuries, but they have surely slowed him down.

Sadd coach Jesualdo Ferreira brought him in place of Ali Asad against El Jaish in the 58th minute to speed up the attack. The 28-year-old tried his best, but was nowhere near his dazzling form of the past when he was hailed as one of the best in Asia.

“Khalfan is a proven player. It’s always an advantage to have him in the squad,” said Ferreira.

During this time in 2014-15, he almost single-handedly used to win matches for Sadd.

Khalfan not only created chances for Hassan Al Haidous, who played as a striker, he scored plenty of goals as well. Unfortunately, he suffered a spate of of injuries including a partial tear of his knee ligament during Qatar’s friendly against North Korea and has found it difficult to get back to his best.
