Jardel, Mardik will sharpen Arabi’s attack

Doha: Brazilian midfielder Diego Jardel is on his way to play in the Qatar Stars League after agreeing to terms with Al Arabi.

Jardel is expected to arrive in Doha on July 20 to undergo a medical before formally signing the contract. The 27-year-old Aguas Mornas native played for Avai FC in the Brazilian Championship A Series last season.

The left-footed playmaker, who also had stints with  Botafogo, Camboriu and Arouca since starting his senior career with União Leiria in 2009, is sure to add creativity and style to Arabi’s midfield.

Jardel is Arabi’s second overseas recruit this season, as the Reds have already secured the signature of Syrian centre-forward Mardik Mardikian. The 25-year-old, who is the son of one of the best Syrian footballers Kevork Mardikian, joined from Jordanian side Al Jazeera for whom he scored 13 goals in 17 league appearances last season.

Mardik, who had previous stints in Oman and Bahrain, also has prior experience in Qatar where he had a six-month contract with Al-Markhiya Sports Club in Qatargas League in 2015.
