India U-23 team beat Singapore in friendly

Doha: India U-23 side beat Singapore U-23 1-0 in a friendly at the Chao Chu Kang Stadium in Singapore on Sunday.

Germanpreet Singh scored the winner in the 80th minute.

India, who will play in the AFC U-23 qualifiers here, will play their second match against the same opponents on July 12.

Coached by Stephen Constantine, India are clubbed with Qatar, Syria and Turkmenistan in Group C of the Asian competition.

“It’s always good to win an international friendly away from home. We were better, fitter and stronger, but we can’t get carried away. There’s a lot of work to be done,” said Constantine.

India open their campaign against Syria on July 19 in Doha.
