I want to go back to Europe: Afif

DOHA: Qatar international Akram Afif won the Estad El Doha award for best Qatari player for the year 2019.
The award was presented to him by former Qatar star Mubarak Mustafa in the presence of Al Sadd coach Xavi Hernandez and Afif’s team-mates at the club’s training ground on Thursday.
Afif's Sadd and Qatar team-mates Abdelkarim Hassan, Boualem Khouki and Al Duhai's Almoez Ali and Bassam Hisham were the other players in the list, and were voted by the English and Arabic media in Qatar.
“I hope this award will bring good luck against Al Duhail in the Qatar Cup final tomorrow,” said Afif, who was adjudged as the AFC Player of the Year last December.
The 23-year-old was in great form last year, which also saw Qatar winning their maiden AFC Asian Cup in the UAE.
“I thank my team-mates in the national team and club who’ve always motivated to do well,” said Afif, who won the Estad El Doha award for the second successive year. “I hope to continue work hard and improve myself in the future.”
Since breaking into the senior squad after winning the Asian U19 Championships in Myanmar, Afif has maintained consistency that catapulted him into stardom.
Akram, then a precocious talent, scored the only goal in the final against North Korea in the continental youth competition.
In five years, he has become the best ad for Qatar football but he is hungry for more success, and that too in Europe.
“My journey is incomplete. I want to go back to Europe and play there,” Afif told www.dohastadiumplusqatar.com
At the AFC Asian Cup in 2019 January, the Villareal striker, who is on loan at Sadd, produced 10 assists — most in the tournament’s history.
No wonder the Afif is hailed as one of the best footballers Qatar has produced in the last one decade.
