Grass-roots development QFA’s top priority: Fahad

QATAR Football Association’s (QFA) Director of Development Fahad Thani said grass-roots development would remain as its top priority.

“One of our targets is to widen the player pool. I’m confident we’ll do it. And once we achieve that, Qatar football will rise further,” said former Qatar national team coach Fahad, who added that he and his team had been working based on the set of directives of the QFA and Asian Football Confederation.

“The Qatar Stars League clubs definitely help us a lot in developing youth football. There’s no question about that. When clubs have quality youth football projects, the standard of play in the league automatically improves,” he said.

“We’ve a number strategies and we work tirelessly to achieve our goals. We also welcome ideas from other possible sources, be it media or fans. We’re ready to incorporate the worthy ones into our plan of action and develop the sport in our country,” said the official.

Fahad, however, said that he had his work cut out.

“Having a plan is something and effectively following up on them is another. We’ve big challenges because we’ve lofty dreams. We know that when we start something, we’ve to finish it as per our desired goals.

“At the QFA, we’ve a shared responsibility. That’s how we operate. We co-operate with all local sports bodies, especially the Qatar Olympic Committee,” he added.
