Enrique focused on French Cup glory despite looming Champions League final

PARIS: Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has dismissed any suggestion that Saturday’s French Cup final against Stade de Reims will be a distraction ahead of the club’s biggest date in history — the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan on May 31.

PSG have already sealed the Ligue 1 title and French Super Cup this season and are now aiming for a domestic treble. The French Cup showdown comes just a week before their long-awaited Champions League final in Germany, but Enrique remains fully focused on the task at hand.

“All the professional players know that playing in a Cup final is very special,” Enrique said. “It’s not difficult to concentrate on tomorrow’s game. None of the players will be distracted.”

Despite Reims’ lowly position — they are fighting for survival in the Ligue 1 relegation playoffs — Enrique is not taking anything for granted.

“It doesn’t matter what Reims’ situation is at the moment. A lot can happen in a match and you have to prepare well,” the Spaniard stated. “Everyone will be giving 130% to win this trophy.”

PSG are chasing a record-extending 16th French Cup triumph. Enrique believes each competition holds its own value and insists his squad is determined to “put the icing on the cake” of an already successful season.(Reuters)
