Emir’s Cup final back to its spiritual home

THE Emir’s Cup final will return to its spiritual home after a gap of two years when the Khalifa International Stadium hosts the high-profile battle between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan.

The venue has undergone a major renovation and will officially be reopened on Friday as the first completed venue of the 2022 World Cup.

The capacity has been increased to 48,850, with every single seat now shaded with a modern canopy. The cooling technology, developed as per FIFA standards, will ensure the temperature inside the stadium is controlled. Another notable feature is the addition of 61 sky boxes — the private seating sections — on the eastern side. Guests can enjoy corporate hospitality there.

In addition, there is the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic Museum, the structure of which has been completed.

“We’ll hand over the building to the relevant authorities soon and museum is likely to be opened by year-end,” said Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy’s Project Manager Mohammed El Ameen.

Khalifa stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2006 Asian Games and 2011 Asian Cup final among many other important fixtures, is earmarked as venue for the 2019 World Athletics Championships as well. DSP
