Duhail eyeing more trophies, says Belmadi

Doha: Al Duhail SC are keen to continue their winning run and add the Emir Cup and AFC Champions League titles to their collection, said their Djamel Belmadi on Friday.

The Algerian coach was talking to the media after Duhail defeated Al Sadd 2-1 to win the Qatar Cup.

“I’m happy to win these two tournaments — the QNB Stars League and the Qatar Cup — with Duhail. But the season is not over yet. We have Emir's Cup and Champions League remaining,” said Belmadi amidst the celebrations of his players.

Belmadi was happy with the way his players reacted after going down to Hassan Al Haidous’ early goal.

Ismail Mohammed equalised in the 78th minute while Youssef El Arabi converted a controversial VAR penalty in added time as Duhail defeated their arch-rivals for the third time this season.

“The club is improving and the players are performing well. We have had a wonderful season, but we can win more titles,” said Belmadi.

The 42-year old, however, was not happy with the way some Sadd players reacted to the referee’s decision.

“Some players overreacted and it was unfair. It was there for everyone to see,” he said.
