Dortmund boosted by Sabitzer and Malen’s expected return ahead of PSG clash
DORTMUND: Borussia Dortmund received a timely boost ahead of their Champions League semi-final first leg against Paris St Germain as coach Edin Terzic confirmed midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and forward Donyell Malen are likely to be fit for Wednesday’s encounter.
Sabitzer, who was sidelined due to illness, and Malen, recovering from an injury sustained during international duty, have returned to training, providing Terzic with additional options for the crucial match. The return of Emre Can and Ian Maatsen from suspension further strengthens Dortmund’s squad for the high-stakes fixture.
Despite a challenging domestic campaign, marked by a recent 4-1 defeat to direct rivals RB Leipzig, Dortmund’s impressive Champions League run has kept the hopes of the fans alive for silverware. The German outfit, winners of the Champions League in 1997, will be aiming to replicate their past success against PSG, whom they faced in the group stage earlier in the competition.
In their previous encounters, PSG emerged victorious with a 2-0 win in Paris followed by a 1-1 draw in Dortmund. With key players returning to fitness and the desire to make a statement in Europe’s premier club competition, Dortmund will be looking to seize the opportunity.
