Azaro strikes late as Morocco edge Syria to reach Arab Cup semifinals

DOHA: Waleed Azaro’s 79th-minute goal proved decisive as Morocco secured a 1–0 win over Syria in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Arab Cup 2025 at Khalifa International Stadium on Thursday.


Azaro Delivers the Breakthrough

In a tight and physical contest, both teams struggled to find clear chances until Azaro broke the deadlock with a composed finish inside the final 15 minutes. The goal sent the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinalists on course for a well-earned spot in the last four.


Late Red Card for Morocco

Morocco were forced to endure a tense finish after substitute midfielder Mohammed Moufid, introduced in the 87th minute, was sent off in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.

Reduced to 10 men, the Atlas Lions defended resolutely through eight minutes of added time to preserve their narrow advantage.


Semifinal Picture Taking Shape

With Morocco booking the first semifinal berth, attention now shifts to the remaining quarterfinals.
