Al Sadd go top with 4-0 win over Al Shahaniya in Doha Bank Stars League

DOHA: Al Sadd moved to the top of the Doha Bank Stars League standings with a commanding 4-0 victory over Al Shahaniya on Thursday at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, in the 15th round of the 2025-26 season.

Akram Afif opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first half to give Al Sadd a deserved lead. Around the midway point of the second half, Claudinho doubled the advantage after being set up by Afif.Afif then took centre stage, scoring twice in quick succession to complete his hat-trick and seal a dominant win for the hosts, adding another treble to his growing Stars League tally.

The victory earned Al Sadd three crucial points and lifted them to the top of the table for the first time this season, helped by second-placed Al Gharafa’s defeat to Al Sailiya in the same round.

It marked Al Sadd’s ninth consecutive league win and reignited the title race as the defending champions surged back into pole position.

Al Sadd now lead the standings with 32 points, one point clear of Al Gharafa, while Al Shahaniya remain bottom with 11 points.
