Al Sadd eye back-to-back titles in decisive showdown against Al Ahli

DOHA: Defending champions Al Sadd are just one win away from clinching a second successive Qatar Stars League title as they prepare for a crucial final round clash against Al Ahli on Friday, April 18. The match is set to kick off at 6:30pm at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

With 49 points, Al Sadd currently sit atop the league table, holding a slender two-point lead over nearest challengers Al Duhail. A victory over Al Ahli will secure the title for Felix Sanchez’s side, regardless of Duhail’s result against Al Khor.

Head coach Sanchez is treating the fixture like a final. “The situation is still in our hands and that is positive, but we are fully aware that the match will be difficult,” he stated. “Al Ahli have had a strong season, but we must focus on ourselves.”

Midfielder Paulo Otavio expressed confidence in the team’s readiness. “We’ve had our ups and downs, but our focus never wavered. We’re ready for the challenge,” he said.

The first meeting between the two sides this season ended in a dramatic 2–2 draw, and Al Ahli—secure in fourth place with a Qatar Cup spot confirmed—will look to end their season on a high by spoiling Sadd’s party.

With the league trophy within touching distance, Al Sadd know they must deliver one final performance to complete their title mission.
