Al Sadd beat Al Ahli to go top
Doha: Hassan Al Haydous scored a goal and made another as Al Sadd beat Al Ahli 2-1 to go top of the QNB Stars League standings on Thursday.
Sadd, who had lost to Al Rayyan in the last round, now have 18 points from seven games while second-placed Al Duhail, who take on Al Khor on Friday, have 16 from six.
Sadd took the lead in the seventh minute through a beautiful goal from their talisman Baghdad Bounedjah.
Al Haidous’ measured pass from the middle found Bounedjah on the left and the Algerian striker beat Ahli goalkeeper Yazan Naim with a left-footed shot.
It seemed Ahli were heading for yet another mauling when Al Haydous took advantage of Simao Junior’s weak headed clearance as he snatched the ball just outside the box and defeated goalkeeper with an angular shot into the bottom corner in the 18th minute.
But to their credit Ahli fought back and were able to pull one back through Mishal Meshaal Abdulla, who beat Sadd goalkeeper Sadd Al Sheeb with a first time left-footed shot in the 90th minute.
