Al Rayyan look to continue winning run

Doha, Qatar: Al Rayyan need to make sure they keep their momentum going when they take on Al Shahania in the Qatar Stars League on Thursday.

Rayyan are on a six-match winning run that has propelled them to second in the standings but coach Diego Aguirre said it was not going to be an easy game.

“The match will not be easy despite the difference between the two teams in the ranking table. It is wrong to think that the game will be easy for our team. We do not look at the difference in points. We will play very seriously and we want to get the result that satisfies us.

“We will have a break in the league and we can bring in another player. I am very happy with the players who are providing good results. I am satisfied with their performance.

Rayyan however, will not have the services of their inspirational captain Rodrigo Tabata who was injured in the match against Al Sailiya last week.

“Tabata, a very important player in our team, will not play, but we have another option in Sebastian Soria, a good player whom we can count on. We do not think a lot about the standings. We are interested only in results. We have the ambition to be the table toppers, so results are very important,” said Aguirre.

Leaders Al Duhail, who made a massive statement with a thumping victory against Al Sadd last week, travel to Al Khor on Friday while the reigning champions, coached by Xavi Hernandez will look to bounce back when they play Qatar SC on Saturday.

Al Arabi face another difficult opponents in Al Sailiya on Friday.

In the other matches, Al Wakrah take on Al Ahli and Al gharafa play Umm Salal.
