Al Gharafa signs Ivorian international Kodjia

DOHA: Al Gharafa presented Ivorian international Jonathan Kodjia at the club’s headquarters on Sunday. The 30 year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Cheetahs.

Gharafa have reportedly paid £2.5million to land the French-born Ivory Coast international from Premier League side Aston Villa.

Kodjia scored 31 goals in 98 appearances after joining Villa from Bristol City in 2016.

“Helping my team is my mission that is my goal,” Kodjia said at a press conference on Sunday. “I had contact with a number of players I know, and I learned that the competition here in the Qatar Stars League is difficult and I will work to help my teammates to achieve the best results.”

Kodjia also added that he has been enjoying his time in Doha and hopes to power Al Gharafa into the AFC Champions League.

“Scoring goals is my primary goal and I hope to help the team qualify for the AFC Champions League.

“I felt comfortable from the day I arrived here. I decided to take a different experience playing in the Middle East, and I am going to work hard to make it a beneficial experience,” Kodjia said.
