Al Duhail SC enter Amir Cup semifinals
Doha, Qatar: Al Duhail defeated Al Shahania 2-0 to enter the Amir Cup semifinal on Thursday.
Youssef El Arabi and Edmilson scored for Duhail but the former QNB Stars League champions had to face a tough challenge from Shahania, who missed a penalty with Amin Lecomte diving to his left to save Mostafa Jafri’s low shot.
El Arabi put Duhail ahead in the minute but Nakajima Shoya was the architect of the goal.
Shoya exchanged passes with Almoez Ali before dancing his way into the Shahania penalty area before passing the ball to El Arabi, who just had to put it into the empty net.
Shahania battled with their famed opponents admirably well and Luciano Vasquez tested Duhail goalkeeper Amin Lecomte with a fierce freekick.
But Edmilson scored Duhail’s second and made the game safe after a quick counter.
Mehdi Benatia launched the attack with a long ball from the defence and although it seemed the opportunity was lost as Edmilson hung on to the ball for too long, he toyed with Reza Najafi before rifling the ball past Amer Ahmad with a powerful right-footer.
