Al Arabi target strong start after intensive Spain training camp

DOHA: Al Arabi are intensifying preparations for the 2026-27 season during a pre-season training camp in Estepona, Spain, as coach Cosmin Contra looks to build cohesion and improve the squad’s fitness ahead of the new campaign.
The Qatari club, which has been in Spain since July 19 and will remain until Aug. 7, is combining indoor and outdoor training sessions focused on tactical, technical and physical development. The Romanian coach and his staff are using the camp to integrate new signings while fine-tuning the team’s approach before competitive action begins.
Al Arabi have scheduled five friendly matches during the camp against Gibraltar’s Lions Club, Saudi Pro League sides Neom SC and Al Fateh, and Spanish clubs Antequera and Malaga. The fixtures are expected to provide a key assessment of the squad’s progress and help new recruits adapt to the team’s playing style.
The club finished seventh in the 2025-26 Doha Bank Stars League with 32 points from nine wins, five draws and eight defeats, scoring 37 goals while conceding 41. Goalkeeper Jassim Al Hail was among the nominees for the Best Goalkeeper award at the Qatar Football Association’s end-of-season awards.
Al Arabi have strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Moroccan midfielder Oussama Tannane, Tunisian forward Youssef Snana, Palestinian defender Ameed Mahajneh and local signings Lotfi Majder, Khatab Bouabida and Salem Al Hajri.
The newcomers join an experienced squad featuring Michael Olunga, Rodri Sanchez, Pablo Sarabia, Isaac Lihadji, Gerard Romero, Alexis Perez, Ahmed Fathy, Jassim Al Hail and Youssef Hassan.
Al Arabi open their Doha Bank Stars League campaign against Al Shamal at Al Thumama Stadium on Aug. 21 as they aim to improve on last season’s mid-table finish and challenge higher up the standings.
