Ake undergoes surgery after fracturing foot in FA Cup match

LONDON: Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has undergone surgery on a fractured foot after sustaining the injury during Saturday’s FA Cup clash against Plymouth Argyle. The Dutch international was substituted at halftime and now faces another spell on the sidelines.

Ake, 30, revealed on Instagram that the injury had been troubling him for months. “This has been such a frustrating season for me, but I have now had a successful surgery on a fracture in my foot,” he wrote. “I am looking positively to the future. The injury is the latest setback in a difficult season for Ake, who has struggled with recurring fitness issues and managed only 18 appearances. His absence will be another defensive concern for Pep Guardiola as City push for silverware across multiple competitions.
