Qatar ready to welcome Asia’s best at 2026 U18 Basketball Championship

DOHA: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) announced its complete preparedness to host the 2026 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship, reinforcing Qatar’s growing stature as a hub for major basketball events.

In a statement released today, the QBF highlighted that the Asian Basketball Confederation’s decision to award Qatar the hosting rights reflects Doha’s reputation as a premier destination for international sports. The tournament will feature 16 top national teams from across Asia, competing in two world-class venues with eight games scheduled daily.

QBF President Mohammed Saad Al Mughaiseeb emphasized that the championship will not only elevate the technical level of the game but also strengthen Qatar’s organizational readiness ahead of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup — the first to be held in the Middle East.

Al Mughaiseeb described the U18 Asia Cup as a key platform for developing young talent and fostering high-level competition. He also underlined the federation’s commitment to working with local and international stakeholders to deliver a tournament marked by professionalism, efficiency, and a healthy competitive environment.

Looking ahead, the QBF aims to leverage such events to support sports tourism, promote basketball in the region, and prepare both national teams and Qatari professionals for global roles in the sport.

Hosting the U18 Asia Cup, Al Mughaiseeb concluded, is not only a milestone in Qatar’s basketball journey but a strategic step toward perfecting preparations for the 2027 World Cup and elevating the country’s sporting credentials on the international stage.
