DOHA: Qatar will mark National Sports Day in line with Emiri Decree No. 80, issued on December 6, 2011, which designated the second Tuesday of February each year as a nationwide celebration of sport.
The decision, an initiative introduced by His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, underscored the country’s commitment to promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles across society.
Ministries and government agencies have prepared a range of public events and encouraged employees to take part enthusiastically in sporting activities.
Since its first edition, National Sports Day has aimed to reinforce the role of sport as a key factor in supporting institutions and achieving their objectives by fostering a healthy society, both physically and psychologically.
The day also seeks to raise awareness of the health benefits of regular exercise and to encourage ministries, government departments, public-sector bodies and private organisations to organise simple, practical and effective sporting activities for their employees.
