Qatar U20 continue Asian Cup preparations with 7-0 victory
Ljubljana: Qatar’s under-20 national team defeated Austrian club Kapfenberger 7-0 in a friendly on Friday as they continued preparations for the AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers in Slovenia.
The training camp is part of Qatar’s build-up to the qualifying tournament, which will run from Aug. 25 to Sept. 6, with places at the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup finals in China at stake.
Qatar were drawn in Group E alongside Saudi Arabia, Oman and Hong Kong, China, with all matches in the group scheduled to be played in Doha.
The qualifying campaign features 32 teams divided into eight groups. The eight group winners and the seven best runners-up will advance to the finals, joining hosts China.
The tournament will provide Qatar’s young squad with an opportunity to test themselves ahead of the qualifiers, where they will face three regional opponents in their bid to secure a place at the continental finals.
Qatar’s camp in Slovenia forms part of the team’s wider preparations for the qualifying campaign, with the coaching staff using the friendly schedule to assess players and refine their approach before the competitive matches begin later this month.(QNA)
