Djokovic Withdraws from Cincinnati Open
OHIO: Defending champion Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from next week’s Cincinnati Open, just days after his remarkable victory in the singles event at the Paris Olympics, organizers confirmed on Thursday. The decision to skip the U.S. Open tune-up event comes on the heels of Djokovic’s historic win over Carlos Alcaraz in Paris, where he became only the fifth player in history to secure all four singles Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal in his career.
Tournament Director Bob Moran expressed understanding of Djokovic’s choice, citing the tight turnaround from his Olympic success. “His title run here last year was so memorable. We are eager to see him on court again soon,” Moran said in a news release.
Djokovic’s withdrawal from the Cincinnati Open opens the door for Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who will now enter the main draw.
