Djokovic overcomes slow start to reach 16th Wimbledon quarter-final
Novak Djokovic booked his place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over Australian 11th seed Alex de Minaur on Centre Court on Monday.
The 37-year-old Serbian, aiming for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title and an eighth crown at the All England Club, recovered from a disastrous opening set to reach his 16th quarter-final at Wimbledon.
“It wasn’t a great start for me, it was a great start for Alex de Minaur obviously,” said Djokovic. “I kind of reset myself in the second set. I was very pleased to hang in tough in the right moments and win this one.”
His 101st Wimbledon win came in front of Roger Federer, seated in the royal box. “It’s probably the first time he’s watching me and I’ve won the match,” Djokovic joked. “The last couple I lost, so good to break the curse.”
Djokovic will next face Italian 22nd seed Flavio Cobolli, who defeated 2017 finalist Marin Cilic in four sets.
