Djokovic one win away from 100th career title after Miami Open semi-final victory

MIAMI: Novak Djokovic moved within one victory of his 100th career singles title after defeating Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3 on Friday to reach the Miami Open final. The Serbian will face unseeded Czech teenager Jakub Mensik in the title clash.

Despite being broken in the opening game, Djokovic quickly regained control, breaking back immediately and seizing a 4-2 lead after a Dimitrov mis-hit. He wrapped up the first set when the Bulgarian sent a volley long and carried his momentum into the second, racing to a 3-0 advantage.

Djokovic closed out the match in dominant fashion, firing an unreturnable serve on his second match point to improve his career record against Dimitrov to 13-1. The fourth seed showcased a serving masterclass, landing 94% of his first serves and hitting five aces to just one double fault.

“After that first game, where I don’t think I did anything wrong—he just played a phenomenal game to break my serve—I just felt I was in the flow,” Djokovic said in his post-match interview.

Now, the 24-time Grand Slam champion stands on the brink of another milestone, with just one match separating him from a historic 100th ATP title.
