
Al Gharafa crowned Qatar U17 Cup champions
Doha: Al Gharafa Club has been declared the champion of the 2024-2025 Qatar U17 Basketball Cup, following a commendable 75-50 victory against Al Sadd Club in the final game held at the Al Gharafa Club Indoor Hall.
The event was marked by an enthusiastic crowd and a high standard of technical skill. Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, the Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation, awarded the championship trophy and gold medals to the players and staff of Al Gharafa.
Additionally, the players of Al Sadd received silver medals for their commendable performance in reaching the final.
Al Gharafa advanced to the final after a decisive 78-52 win over Al Ahli Club in the semi-finals, while Al Sadd secured their final spot by defeating Al Rayyan Club 73-57. From the outset of the final match, Al Gharafa demonstrated their dominance through effective defensive strategies and rapid counterattacks, steadily increasing their lead to conclude the game with a 25-point advantage.
In a statement made after the award ceremony, QBF Secretary-General Al Kuwari conveyed his satisfaction with the exceptional technical proficiency exhibited during the tournament. He highlighted that the various age groups form the foundation for the future of Qatari basketball, commending the dedication of all teams involved and the spirit of sportsmanship that characterized the event.
Al Kuwari added, “We congratulate Al Gharafa Club on this well-deserved victory, and we also commend the outstanding performance of Al Sadd Club and all participating teams. This tournament has shown us that grassroots work is progressing steadily, and we look forward to continuing to develop this important category to build strong national teams in the future.”
