Katara abuzz with activities on National Sport Day

Doha, Qatar: Katara Cultural Village was a beehive of activities on Tuesday, with several sports federations and cultural organisations choosing the picture perfect beachfront as their venue on the occasion of the National Sport Day.

Thousands of people, including ministers include ministers and other top officials chose Katara as their destination, adding to the festive atmosphere.

A total of 12 sports federations, including tennis, sailing and tennis, were among 50 organisations that helped set up more than 70 different activities reminding Qatari residents yet again of the importance of fitness and health.

The activities included water sports, volleyball, tennis and a lot of other competitions in jogging, sit-ups and dragon boat race, but the most important attraction was undoubtedly the Asian Cup won so emphatically by Al Annabi in the UAE earlier this month and some of the heroes of that historic triumph including Almoez Ali, Bassam Al Rawi and Abdulkarim Hassan.

Speaking at this occasion, Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim said Katara always participates in the national occasions and constantly motivates its visitors to practise sports by opening many facilities for that. “Katara has become a hotspot destination for sportsmen and hosted local and international sport events successfully,” he said.
