Qatari and Syrian basketball federations exchange commemorative shields
Doha: In the context of sports collaboration and camaraderie between the Qatari and Syrian Basketball Federations, the Qatar Basketball Federation has graciously hosted the Syrian men’s national team for a training camp. This initiative is part of the team’s preparations for the third and final window of the 2025 Asian Cup qualifiers, which will culminate in the finals scheduled to take place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia next August.
During this hosting, a cordial meeting occurred between representatives of both federations, where commemorative shields were exchanged, symbolizing the strong sports ties between the two nations. Notable attendees included Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, Iyad Daraq Al Sabai, Head of the Syrian National Team Mission, and Mr. Abdul Salam Fayyad, Head of the Syrian Community in Qatar.
This initiative reflects the close cooperation between the federations and the Qatar Basketball Federation’s commitment to supporting the Syrian national team in its quest for qualification, especially given the challenges Syria faces in organizing preparatory camps for crucial matches.
The Qatari Federation has extended comprehensive support, covering expenses related to air travel, accommodation, and the arrangement of friendly matches, thereby ensuring the Syrian team’s preparedness for the forthcoming competitions.
The Syrian team is set to compete in two critical matches during this qualifier window, facing the UAE team on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 7:00 pm at Al Gharafa Club Hall in Doha, followed by a match against the Bahraini team on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 10:00 pm at the same venue.
Al Mughaisib emphasized that this hosting aligns with the commitment to bolster Arab sports and foster collaboration among federations. He highlighted that the Qatar Basketball Federation consistently strives to create optimal conditions for fellow Arab teams, ensuring they have a conducive environment for their preparations for continental competitions.
In response, Al Subaie conveyed his profound gratitude to the Qatari Federation for this initiative, underscoring that this hosting will positively influence the performance of the Syrian team during the qualifiers. He also commended the significant support extended by the Syrian community in Qatar towards the team’s efforts during the training camp.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to ongoing sports collaboration and strengthening the ties of camaraderie between the Qatari and Syrian Basketball Federations, aimed at advancing the development of the sport in both nations and enhancing the performance of their national teams on international stages.
