Leverkusen dismiss Ten Hag after just two matches

LEVERKUSEN: Bayer Leverkusen have parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag after only two Bundesliga games in charge, the club confirmed on Monday.

The Dutchman’s brief tenure ended following a disappointing start to the season, which saw Leverkusen lose their opener 2-1 at home to Hoffenheim before being held to a 3-3 draw against 10-man Werder Bremen on Saturday.

“This decision was not an easy one for us. Nobody wanted to take this step,” Sporting Director Simon Rolfes said in a statement. “However, the past few weeks have shown that building a new and successful team with this set-up is not feasible.”

Ten Hag, sacked by Manchester United last October, was appointed in May to succeed Xabi Alonso, who departed for Real Madrid after guiding Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title and a domestic double last season.
